What the Davies' do: The desk of an eight year old at dusk...

I'll admit - this is probably the most boring blog post to most people.  But not to me.  Do you ever look through old photo albums, view old home videos - even if it was only from a year ago?  Or do you check your 'time hop', 'on this day' or memories on social media...?  I do.  I do it a lot.  And I always marvel at the amount of times I think, ahhh, yeah - I forgot about when they said that, or wore  that outfit, or were obsessed with...

Well that is what this blog is about.  A moment.  A tiny space in time when my eight year old loved Hubba Bubba and her blusher and garish eyeshadow palate.  Now I'm sure in years to come she might still love these things.  And I don't mind her experimenting with make up - I know she's eight, but there's nothing wrong with her having fun with it.  It not like she contours for school or anything.  But actually she has quite a talent, even at her tender age, for being able to apply these colours with skill and enjoys watching YouTube with me to copy tutorials and takes time practicing with this make up and some face paints too.

So for me (and her) this documentation might be the first glimpse into a real interest, hobby or even work as an artist of our future.  I might look back at these images in 25 years while my daughter accepts an Academy award for Best Makeup and say "Look, this is where it all started..." - OK, maybe I'm exaggerating, but you never know...  Ha!

Thanks for reading peeps.

My youngest studio client so far...

I am writing this post with just 2 more sleeps to go until I get to meet my brand new niece!  Yay!  I'm an Aunt - Aunty Fleur.  I'm so excited right now.  So it seemed fitting while thinking about all the newborn scrumminess I'll be indulging in over this coming weekend while visiting my brother and sister-in-law in London that I get round to putting a blog together of the youngest client so far I've had the pleasure of welcoming into my studio...

Baby girl Murphy was an absolute joy to photograph.  I'm fortunate enough to be good pals with her wonderful Mummy and Daddy, our older kids being in the same Primary School.  And if I'm honest, as soon as Lorraine's pregnancy was announced I started thinking about capturing all the newborn details.

It was a dull Monday morning when the Murphys arrived at my home.  But meeting Annabel was definitely enough to brighten up my day.  She's a little doll of a babe - just adorable.  I feel like I could go on and on about how much I enjoyed the time spent with her.  We spent a relaxed hour or so together, Dad enjoying a coffee, us three adults nattering away and 4 week (to the day) old Annabel being her lovely little self; letting me capture her between soothing cuddles from Mummy and satisfying feeds.

So here we go.  Enjoy the following pics.

And if you know someone who is expecting soon on the Wirral and think they would love to document their baby in a similar way; natural and unposed - point them my way!  Thanks peeps.

Just relaxing...

You've always got the capture the newborn squirminess too!

Not a planned shot, but quite possibly my favourite of the lot!

Her gorgeous head of mousy hair and those wrinkly knees!

Annnnnd she sleeps....

What the Davies' do: Lilli, 10 years in the making.

There's too much to say right now.   I've started this blog at least 4 times.  I've typed and then hit the delete key over and over.  I can't find the right words to express how I feel about my first born getting to double digits.

10 years have gone in a flash.  We couldn't be more proud of the girl who first made us a family.  A whole decade of parenting has completely flown by.  And I feel like we've done OK.  There's been many a tough time, hundreds of arguments, plenty of tears and tantrums - not just from her.  Ha!  But the be all and end all of it is that this kid (along with her younger sister and brother) makes us the happiest parents ever.  I could carry on and on about how much I love her.  But I don't need to do that.  I'm certain many of you know exactly how I feel if you have children yourselves.  High tens all round for our amazing offspring!

The following images were taken a few weeks before she turned 10.  I had came across these fun sunglasses for a great price in Home Bargains and Lilli was excited to use them to create some new artwork for her bedroom wall.  There was no pressure here.  Just a Mum and daughter having fun.  The studio wasn't even fully ready at this point - it was literally just a wooden box.  But we didn't let that put us off.

As Lilli wanted these for her walls I opted for a variety of fun editing styles.  Which I love.  It was a bit of an epiphanic moment actually.  I spend so much time thinking my work 'should' look like this or that.  And it should stay looking like this or that.  But why?  I always describe myself as eclectic in my tastes.  It's going to start coming through more in my work from now on too.  Now that I'm officially old and wise! 😉  Or thats the plan anyway...

I've talented pals... Too Cute Couture is one of them!

I've a lovely lot of talented friends.

Helen at Too Cute Couture is one of them..

Helen lives 3 minutes away from me (if you walk the 'long' way).  But technically we can open our back gates and be clinking a wine glass on a Friday evening within 30 seconds from opening the Pinot bottle!

I first got to know Helen as a fellow Mum on the school run.  Her 2 girls are in the same school years as my middle and youngest offspring.  I'm ashamed to say though, I only found out about her amazing talent for dressmaking long after we first met.   The pieces she produces for babies and young girls are simply stunning.  And you need to take a look.  Based in Wallasey on the Wirral, Helen works away with the great skill on gorgeous custom orders for her clients and also stocks a shop on Etsy.  Here are her links so you can check her out - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TooCuteCoutureBoutique and Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/TooCuteCoutureKids.

Now we come to the afternoon when I got to photograph her latest stock.  The weather had been a bit ropey in the run up to this day, but thankfully any rain held off and her girls were in great spirits; modelling their Mum's newest pieces like pros!  We took a walk to our local park and let the girls do their thing with minimal direction needed from Helen or I.  Naturals these two...

So I'll stop blabbering on now and let the images of Helen's dresses speak for themselves.  I'm thrilled that Helen is in love with this session and I'll look forward to working with her and her girls again in the future.

Thanks for reading peeps.

The new 'Fleur Davies Photography' website.

Well, hello!

I have been squirrelling away at tog HQ for a little while now.  I have designed a new logo, decided on a working name change, captured a new headshot and tweaked and twiddled with my website to get it to a standard I am very happy with.   I've poured my heart into getting everything just right for you and for me, and I think I've managed it.

There are pages with tailored information to specific sessions I offer - along with a new pricing structure which I hope reflects value for money for an artistic service; letting me produce a collection of images for you that you will treasure for a long time.

On the pricing page you will find links to example sessions.  I thought this was an important addition to my website.  It gives you a lovely look at what you can expect to receive when you hire me.

So pop over and take a look around - here's a direct link:

Movie night be like...

I was working on bouncing some flash in my bedroom.  I looked around and saw the bag full of goodies my Hubs had bought us and the kids for our movie night in the big bed, taking place later that evening.

I threw the crisps and cookies in a haphazard posed ish way onto the front of our bed.  My bedroom was only very dimly lit from a corner lamp over on the left (as I was looking) so I thought the set up was great to get a quick few mins of flash practice. - Every day is a school day!

So I began.  And little did I know that my kids (the youngest first) would photobomb my setup to create the most perfect Friday night pre Movie images.  Turning a little bit of a practice into a fun set of pics I will now be happy to print and display.

Here they are...

Toast at Marino Lounge...

A long over-due Mummy and Daughter date!

I documented our morning at the lovely Marino Lounge in New Brighton.  We love this place.  We were the only ones there for around half an hour, so getting my camera out was a must.  Best toast and marmalade around according to my date.  Lovely staff, relaxed atmosphere and surroundings.  And with some beautiful views too.

Thank you for looking. ~ Fleur x
